Great food, great location. Great service - though, punctilious and obsequious almost to the point of unctuousness. But pleasant, patient & attentive & informative - good w/ kids. 8 yr. old steak aficionado says steak was "awesome", octogenarian patriarch said it was good. Accommodating of special requests, good selection of vegetarian items, able to make them vegan. Great live classical music from nearby park, however, inexplicable decision to run loud fountain cleaning machine at 8:00 while four tables were still seated on terrace, thankfully management quickly realized this grievous error of judgement and made it stop a few minutes later.

This is a wonderful little place and for the surroundings alone, I would come back here. We sat on the patio for lunch on Saturday and I added salmon to one of their salads and both my dining companions had the blackened salmon sandwiches. I cleaned my plate so I guess that's a good sign! I felt like it was a decent value all things considered. My salad was $12 and though I thought the salmon was just ok, the salad as a whole was very good. I had a glass of their house merlot which was very tasty. The lime aioli that came with the salmon sandwiches got rave reviews. We ordered their sugar free blueberry cake for dessert and it was great. The cake was more like a cheesecake and it was really nice- served with fresh whipped cream and an almond crust thing of sorts. I'd love to stay at the hotel some time and have dinner there. Manitou Springs is very charming- as is this place!

Excellent food and service. Always. The ahi tuna appetizer is incredible! One of my favorites for sure.

Overpriced and shabby. The food is average at best. They seem to be pushing the unique game items on their menu, but apparently have no idea how to actually prepare some of these items without turning them into bland (but pretty) barely edible food. Everything we ate was tasteless, bland, overcooked and not something I would recommend to anyone at these prices. One of the items we ordered presented an amazingly unsavory conflict of flavors (overly sweet, bitter, overcooked and greasy - all at the same time, quite the accomplishment). The waitstaff was slow and snotty. This place is surviving only due to their past reputation as an upscale experience. It was an experience alright - not one I ever care to repeat. My last comment is that you had better take out a small loan to pay for your dinner at the Cliff House where the pricing in no way reflects the astonishing mediocrity of the food, atmosphere and service.

Simply a superb dining experience. Great service and food was on point. I had a perfectly done steak and all sides were a tasteful combination enhancing my carnivore experience. A bit pricey but the food and delivery was well worth it.

What an amazing experience. For my birthday my parents took us to the Cliff House! The food was amazing! We all had a salad, entree, and dinner. There was nothing to complain about. Everything was full of flavor and cooked to perfection. The winter salad was interesting, but I am so glad I went outside my box and tried something new. If you go this winter, make sure you get it. I asked my dad and mom if they ever change their menu (my parents come here several times a year) and my dad said yes they do. I cannot wait to go back when they change the menu. Also the staff was very pleasant. They were funny, but never crossed any lines. The dining area is very quaint and quiet. It was a lovely experience and I cannot wait to go back

My wife and I went here on our 13th Anniversary around the first part of March. It had been snowing most of the day and almost decided not to go due to the icy roads. But, being our anniversary I stuck it out and made the drive over. I must say, I am very thankful that I did. We get to the restaurant at 7ish(had reservations) and we are seated right away under the mirror(great table for two) in the fireplace room. We ended up being the only customers in the entire place. The server was great. She was attentive, knew the menu very well, and went out of her way to provide excellent service. The chef even took the time to write "Happy Anniversary" in chocolate on our desert plates. The steak was cooked to perfection, and the perfectly executed side dishes created the perfect pairing. Love this place and will certainly be back. It was quite the experience.

This is a lunch review. Great place to go for lunch before or after your railway excursion. Beautiful spot, great staff and Chef Savage has created a terrific menu. The artichoke crab bisque soup was fresh and tasty as was the fresh fish and chips. This place might look fancy but my 3 and 7 year olds were right at home. Tasty kids menu too.

Truffle steak! Yes it's true, I am a fan of the cliff house, but it's only because of one dish. The ambiance is perfect and the location is beautiful set in downtown Manitou Springs. There is a wonderful hint of Victorian and a fabulous wine/champagne selection. The waiters and Sommelier are perfect and keen to help you out and ready to give you the best deals. The dish I go there for is the 6oz Filet Mignon stuffed with truffles, it is phenomenal, truly the best Filet Mignon I've ever had the pleasure of tasting. So if you like steak and you like truffles then this is the place for you! The hungry kitten says: Truffles truffles truffles! p.s the dessert is good too. (Oh and wear a coat sometimes it gets a little chilly in the restaurant)

This is my favorite restaurant in all of Colorado. Every thing on the menu is sublime. But their Lobster bisque and toasted chicken salad sandwich are worth the drive.

5star food and service, but not the price. Stopped by for lunch before going to garden of the gods. What an unexpected surprise! Party of three and we all had a great lunch. Service was incredible!

My girlfriend and I ate here a couple of weeks ago and were very pleased overall. Her chicken dish was very good, and my bacon wrapped Elk was good but not great. The service was generally attentive and on point, though it was a bit difficult to get a drink and refills. The ambiance was great, and a high point was heading into the piano bar after dinner and sitting by the fire. Great fun! I would definitely return here for a special occasion dinner, but not before trying some other comparable places.

This review is for the hotel, not for the restaurant. We ate breakfast in the restaurant, but it was the breakfast that comes with lodging, so I could not offer a fair review of the restaurant overall. That said, my hotel review is as follows. This is one of the two most wonderful places to stay, in one of the most charming weekend destinations in Colorado. For those who have not been, Manitou Springs is just west of Colorado Springs and travel time from Denver is a quick hour. The town is historically significant for a couple of reasons and there are some great art galleries in town, as well as live springs where you can sample natural mineral waters. Google Manitou Springs, Colorado for more information on the town. The Cliff House is a beautifully restored hotel just off of the main strip of galleries and restaurants. My lady and I stayed in a 4th floor room with a vaulted ceiling, spa tub for two and fireplace. The bed was comfortable. The room was pristine. The romance package included a bottle of wine, and some other goodies. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It was amazing how a one-night stay at the Cliff House resulted in such a feeling of relaxation and comfort. Romantic? Yoooouuuu betcha! Would I go back? Assuming the company I kept was the same, without a doubt or hesitation.

This is a casually elegant turn-of-the-century dining room located in the historic Cliff House hotel. I would recommend everyone try this place at least once, just to experience the history of the place. Service is very good, and the menu is creative. Though I have always enjoyed my meals here, I feel it is a tad pricey for what you get. Nevertheless, you won't leave disappointed in terms of the food and service. A nice night out!

One of the best dining experiences I have ever had. We came through 30 minutes before closing time on a whim. Most places this nice require a reservation, but they gladly welcomed us in. We never felt rushed. My meal was absolutely AWESOME! A very pleasant surprise, and a must visit if you are in the area.

My boyfriend took me here for my birthday this year. It was great! The staff was knowledgeable and when I asked about the wine the waiter directed me to the purchaser who gave us his card so we could buy it in the future. There is nothing better than a beautiful setting, great food, and excellent service, and this is the best place for it!

This is a wonderful place. I am biased toward it as my wife and I were married at the hotel. Yet, I really think we'd love it anyway. The food is always wonderful. The atmosphere and service are always very, very good, too. Although expensive, you can't go wrong with a meal here.

If you are looking for more of a casual experience, then head into the hotel, but then go right and walk to the other side of the hotel. There you will find the Red Mountain Grill. The food comes from the same 5-star kitchen with 3-star prices. Great atmosphere, live music, indoor-outdoor fireplace and balcony looking back to the mountains.

Was rather disappointed in the food here at Cliff House. It has all the makings to be a fantastic dining destination, but yet it falls short. First of all, the sommelier is excellent. Once he found out that we knew a little about wine, he was very lively and willing to chat with us. I was delighted to find a 2003 Santa Duc Gigondas on the wine list, as we had drunk that same bottle before dinner, so we just continued along with that for the rest of the night! At $69/bottle, this wine is a fantastic value. I started with the buffalo empanada. It was very light on the buffalo. And by very light, I mean I couldn't find any distinguishable buffalo meat in there. Maybe they meant to say it was flavored with essence of buffalo? I ordered the 6 oz. chateubriand as my entree. It came out and I was horrified at first taste. It tasted like A1 steak sauce. Maybe not bad to some, but why would you ever marinate a great piece of beef in something that tasted that way? To boot, all of the accompaniments were unimpressive. Sooo, I ended up sending it back (it's been at least 3 years since I've sent an entree back to the kitchen - I don't do it often). I can't believe a chef would send out a plate like that. I ordered the buffalo filet with lobster ravioli instead, and that was a much better choice. The buffalo was tender (though not as robust in flavor as I expected), and the beets and ravioli were very nice. Moral of the story: do not order the chateaubriand! The winner of the evening: dessert. The four of us LOVED everything we tried. My favorite was the double lemon cheesecake - it was amazing! The service is great, wine list excellent, dessert is excellent. The executive chef needs to make some changes, though. For this price and setting, one should receive a much better overall dining experience.

I try to save 5 stars for places that really deserve it. I think this one did. I went here for lunch, sat on the patio on a Sunday. I had the soup of the day, which was a mushroom bisque that must have had at least 2 types of mushrooms in it. It was sincerely one of the best things I've ever eaten. As far as the lunch menu, it was a lot of traditional items but they had interesting twists on them. For example, I had a Reuben Sandwich made of Filet, I also tried the Barbecue Pork, and the Pork was incredible. The bread was extremely fresh, so either they had baked it that day or they get it from a bakery nearby. The service was excellent. If I had one criticism, things were a little on the greasy side, but considering I had a grilled Reuben, my wife had a Barbecue Pork sandwich, and my mom ordered the Fish & Chips, that may be by design.

Had dinner there the other night. It was perfect! Great food (nothing terribly fancy, so it won't scare your grandma, but all fresh and flavorful), impeccable service, decent vegetarian options. I felt very coddled, and yet not intruded upon. Very good value for this quality of upscale dining.

Red Mountain Bar and Grill is the 'bar' within the Cliff House hotel. The menu has a variety from healthy items to stuff your face burgers. The appetizer of five pieces of seared ahi resting on rolls of toasted rice had a visual appeal and was tasty. The chicken caeser salad was okay with chopped romaine and sliced chicken. The desserts were great. We tried two different souffles, one is a frozen citrus sorbet with a sauce it didn't need and served with Madeline cookies. The other is the Cliff House souffle which takes 20 minutes to prepare and it is worth the wait.

My fiance and I went here for dinner to celebrate a special occasion. We both had the house salad and filet mignon and thought everything tasted very good. I personally did not like all the blue cheese on the filet because it distracted from the taste of the meat. The waitstaff was helpful and unpretentious. I was not a big fan of the atmosphere. It was an antique dining room. I did not like the lighting (they had lace curtains on the windows) and it just didn't feel right to me the way the tables were set up. This is probably just personal preference. Overall we had a good experience though I don't think we would make this our go-to fine dining restaurant.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Cliff House for 3 nights. After our first night dining at their main dining room, we made it a point to have dinner there for the remaining two nights. We had the same waiter all three nights. He was very personable, which meant a lot especially since you could tell that it was our first time at fine dining. He wasn't condescending, instead he was very kind and welcoming. Each three nights, we had something different to eat and were not dissapointed. The food was fresh, our meals were done in a timely manner, and the whole atmosphere was surreal. They had a large wine and beer selection that is sure to please any taste. Their breakfast buffet was up to par, as well. They had a very nice spread from cereal to french toast to help you start off your day.

We enjoyed a very nice dinner for ten in a private room to the left of the main dining room. Service was very attentive although a tad slow. The food was delicious. The fried shrimp appetizer was crispy with a nice Thai sweet chili sauce. Bison carpaccio was very fresh and the seared ahi tuna perfectly cooked. Spinach salad with roasted beets, goat cheese, candied walnuts and raspberry vinaigrette had the perfect ratio of individual components so that one could taste each flavor in every bite. The smoked ruby trout with crayfish etouffee was delicious although it was a little heavy of a dish and had two entire trout filets - way too much! The etouffee was also a little overcooked so the crayfish were like little nuggets and not tender. The grits under the dish were rich and flavorful. The raspberry white chocolate souffle was okay - much prefer a Grand Marnier Souffle with a vanilla creme anglaise. Duckhorn Cabernet was an outstanding wine choice!

Today we stopped by the Cliff House for breakfast. Upon reading the menu we both were excited; although a limited menu, all items looked delicious. I ordered a side of bacon and pancakes, and my partner order the tofu scramble. Portions lean towards European standards. My food was good, however, my partner would not order his again. Having consumed numerous tofu scrambles across the country this would lean more towards a warmed tofu fry vs a scramble. Disappointing.

Lovely dining on the wide porch in view of the mountains (there is a pretty dining room indoors). All food was good with some surprising and delicious sauces and twists on American favorites in our orders - scalloped potatoes, mix of roasted vegetables and red quinoa and sweet potato cake with the fish. The rainbow trout almandine was beautiful and steak perfect, but the halibut could have used something more in spice or something, but all enjoyed their meal and evening.

We stayed at hotel for our anniversary and ate here for dinner. The presentation of food and service are pretty great. I saw lots of people pulling out the smartphones to Instagram their dinners. I had one of the specials that evening which was elk and it was incredible. Tender and not gamey at all. If you're staying in Manitou and want a nicer dinner and don't mind dropping some coin, the cliff house is where you want to go.

Great, friendly service. Fabulous food and wonderful experience all around! We had the lunch special three course meal along with the lobster bisque. The bread we started with was so fluffy and delicious! The flight of creme brûlée was phenomenal. Vanilla and honey were our favorites! What are you waiting for? Go, go, go! ;)

Formal but attentive service. Fish & chips fine, greasy, way big. Don't have the raspberry (?) ice-tea: cloying. The TCH burger was fine -- again, way big. Same for the quiche: good but nothing spectacular. Not outrageously expensive. Not bad, just very unmemorable.

This review is mainly for the hotel, but also the restaurant. To be fair, its a very nice hotel and restaurant. There is no way this place is a 5-star hotel. Maybe in the past, in its glory days, but a keen eye notices all the problems of having a hotel in an old mansion. Its barely a 4-star in my opinion, and I almost rated it 3-stars. First, there are a ton of slanted walkways and odd steps up and down. There's no way around them and they'll often catch you by surprise. The layout is also a problem. There doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason as to how the rooms are laid out. Our room was nice enough, but it had two steps that led up to the bathroom. That's normally fine, but its inconvenient in the middle of the night when you least expect a step up to the bathroom. The shower was nice enough --- 10 years ago. But the general feeling of not only our room but the whole structure was that it needed a little TLC.

Seared ahi appetizer and beef carpacio appetizer were both excellent. Grilled stuffed chicken entree was good, a little dry and salty. Extensive wine list. Would definitely come back if we're in the area.

Just got home from one night at Cliff House. It was a last minute decision to have one night away from home while grandma is in town to watch our toddler (with another on the way). Called and got a junior suite with the foodie add-on. Checked in on a snowy Wednesday evening and went straight to dinner. All the staff was amazing. The room was perfect - fireplace, view of the Incline, spa tub (at 26 weeks pregnant I used it that night and the morning before we checked out!). Had a problem getting the water to work so we called the front desk and a maintenance person took care of it ASAP. He said something about one of the parts they use to switch water from showerhead to tub is easy to get stuck and happens a lot and he had it fixed in no time. Food at the dining room was spectacular. I had lobster bisque then the trout with cheesy grits, spinach, and crawfish etoufee and finished with the trio crème brûlée. Husband had french onion soup, steak, and finished with the bread pudding. We were both amazed by the food. The buffet breakfast was absolutely delicious as well. We were able to get a late check-out and it was perfect (so I had the chance to soak once more!)

A fantastic breakfast offering. The food is amazing and high recommend the wild mushroom florentine or the French toast. A lot of attention to detail in the food prep and presentation. If you are looking for a high end amazing breakfast than the Cliff House is a must.

Beautiful presentation of delicious food. We were celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary, which was mentioned by the maitre'd, though our table wasn't in a particularly nice spot-just the center of the dining room. We shared a reasonably priced bottle of wine from an extensive wine list & the sommelier was very helpful. Our waiter was very enthusiastic & knew the menu selections very well. The chef sent out an amusebouche of a seared scallop with a chile seasoning and pickled slaw. It was amazing! Definitely a great way to start out a meal! We settled on cream of mushroom soup & a classic wedge salad for starters, though we got mushroom lasagna & the wedge. The wedge was a great play on an old favorite with dried shallots and a balsamic reduction. The mushroom lasagna was tasty. Very rich sauce, mushrooms were flavorful, but the potatoes could have been crispier. For main courses we had Colorado bass. It was accommpanied by squash, had a very rich sauce, was a nice meaty bite, & the brown butter mezzaluna was a nice addition. The skin was also nice & crispy. I had the Colorado mustard chicken, with a nice crispy skin. The greens were topped with sunflower seeds. It was served with a soft egg & peccorino-romano soft custard. Delicious! Very helpful staff. Nice ambiance. Since it was a special occassion, it would have been nice to have had that recognized, but other than that it was very nice.

Wonderful! I had our anniversary dinner here and it was delightful. The wine list was superb, service was understated but attentive and the steak was perfect! Only critique I can offer is that open table only had an 8p reservation but when we arrived there the restaurant was nearly empty. I would have thought they could have called to offer us an earlier spot. Overall very nice for a special occasion.

We were staying at the hotel so we got a $40 credit towards dining so we decided to dine and the restaurant. I had the trout, my husband the filet Mignon, my parents had the Fruite de Mar and ribeye. All of our entrees were delicious and presentation was beautiful. The waiter was attentive without being overbearing. The desserts are amazing as well! The Creme brûlée is to die for! The ice cream is made in house and my husband really enjoyed the dark chocolate potete. Overall very good experience!

If you have had the pleasure of dining here for dinner you understand the level of seriousness that comes with every bite that you take. Not only is the food divine but the service is astonishing I did not have to ask for a single thing everything was taken care of to complete perfection. My husband and I stayed in the hotel for three nights one of the most joyous times in my life. The food and the service and everything in between made it remarkable.

The view is gorgeous from the veranda; do not eat the food. Enjoy a glass of wine in the late afternoon. Ordered the shrimp cocktail and it was not edible. The brown rubbery shrimp and shriveled lemon clearly indicated the dish had been sitting in the chill box for far too long. Tip: never send back food and trust what will come out of the kitchen in reply. This version of shrimp cocktail is oddly presented with an unidentifiable white gelatin with the tainted cocktail sauce inside. As a self professed foodie, the conversation with the kitchen staff indicated they were not following safe food handling practices.

Our dinner last night was fantastic! We started off with the duck risotto, while not my favorite, my husband really liked it. The pumpkin purée was the highlight of that dish for me. Next, we had the winter salad. The squash was cooked perfectly and the vinaigrette was just the right amount of tangy ness ! I went with the fruits de mer. Although he lobster tail was tiny and they only give you half, the overall freshness was superb! My us and had the bacon wrapped elk filet and it was to die for! I savored the bite he gave me! Definitely go with the elk! Service was impeccable! Pricey but well worth it! Nice place to celebrate! Very elegant atmosphere!

My wife and I have been dining at the Cliff House for many years. It has been our go to destination for fine dining on special occasions, when we have guests from out of town and for special gifts to others. We have always exceptional service and wonderful food on every occasion. On Friday 12/13 we had dinner at the Cliff House and the experience was quite different. This is the first time we've dined at the Cliff House since Chef Savage left but we didn't expect anything less than our normal stellar evening. My wife ordered the Cliff House Filet without the crab meat (she's allergic) and I ordered the duck confit. When our entrees came to the table my wife's filet looked like a round, short disk of meat and not the plump juicy filet typically served. As my wife ate the filet she found several pieces of gristle which a properly cut filet should never have. My entree was in even worse shape. The duck was actually cooked very well but as I tried the butternut squash ravioli I found they were all uncooked, raw, dough with cold squash inside. When my meal was plated someone placed a cooked duck over raw ravioli and then someone else let it leave the kitchen without catching the mistake. The lacking attention to detail and sub-par food quality was quite a surprise. The one redeeming quality of the evening was that the wait staff was in perfect form as usual. They are on par with any of the best restaurants we've dined at anywhere in the world. They quickly took my plate and had another new entree prepared apologizing numerous times for the trouble and telling me that my meal would be paid for. One of the waiters even covered one of my drinks because he felt so bad. My second entree was much better but by the end of the evening my wife was so disappointed I'm not sure if or when we'll ever dine at the Cliff House again. I wish the chef had come out to apologize and try to smooth things over instead of letting the wait staff scramble to cover the mistakes from his kitchen, that would have gone a long way with us. I emailed the Cliff House to let them know about the disappointing experience, still waiting to hear back from them...

Great porch, wonderful service, incredible food, personable and attentive staff. We could not have been happier with lunch at The Cliff House. Chose to split the 7oz. Angus Burger, as we weren't starving. Good thing we did. Half was plenty. Especially with the WONDERFUL home made fries! Rather than be miffed we halved an order, it was served on separate plates with a smile. Excellent establishment. We will be back.

I was excited to try this place from the stellar reviews but was so utterly disappointed after such a mediocre meal. The service was nice, but extremely slow considering our waitress was only serving a couple tables. It took quite a while just to get our drinks. The presentation of our food was pretty (expected from fine dining) but the taste was subpar. My husband got the Maple Leaf Duck Risotto: some of the risotto was not cooked, the flavor was too sweet that it overpowered the flavor of the duck. The duck was shredded which lost my favorite part in the crispy duck skin. I had the Cedar Planked Salmon on a bland risotto cake. The salmon was overcooked and also lacking flavor. Considering how much the meal tallied up, we should have asked for our money back. I would not recommend this place.

Great brunch. Discombobulated service today! Took forever to get our food. They gave me the wrong entree, took awhile to get the right one. Then two of us realized that we did not get our potatoes. The first time we asked the waiter we were told that our meals did not include potatoes. We asked to see the menu. Guess what? Got potatoes. Then had to ask more than once for coffee. Loved the food as always but disappointed in the overall experience this time.

Four words.... Honey Chipotle Pork Sandwich. Talk about heaven. I don't know if it was because I'd been hiking for 3 hours and had only a protein shake for breakfast but this sandwich was more than I could hope for. The makings include the house pulled Pork, Roasted Red and Yellow Peppers, Sharp Cheddar Cheese... and a surprise of 2 fried onions to top it off in a fresh hot dog type of bun. Truly one of the best pulled pork sandwiches I have ever had. I love that it comes with fresh fruit and house chips versus the usual french fries. (I skipped the house chips and voted for extra fruit... however). My friend got the Quiche... Boar Bacon, Gruyere, Spinach and Caramelized Onions... and it was phenomenal as well. Very light and filling. Again it comes with fresh fruit. We ate on the veranda, it was quite beautiful outside... however be prepared for only "Ok" service. This is what made this a 4 star versus 5 star review. While the ladies tried hard, there was just too many people to help. But don't let this deter you, the food was truly fantastic!
